Augmented reality is useful when it solves an actual problem. A furniture retailer that lets customers see how a sofa fits in their living room before buying it. A training program that overlays instructions onto the equipment being serviced. A real estate listing where a buyer can walk through a property renovation that hasn't happened yet. Those are the kinds of AR projects we build — applications where the technology makes the experience meaningfully better, not just more impressive in a demo.

## What We Build

Our [AR development](/blog/integrating-augmented-reality-business) covers three areas: product visualization, spatial experiences, and interactive training.

Product visualization puts your products into a customer's real environment through their phone camera. This works for retail, furniture, automotive, and any industry where seeing the thing in context changes the buying decision. We build these using ARKit for iOS and ARCore for Android, with WebAR options for experiences that need to work without an app download.

Spatial experiences use AR to overlay information onto physical spaces. We've applied this to real estate walkthroughs, [conservation site mapping](/blog/conservation-technology-website-chyulu-hills), and event installations. The technology is the same — spatial anchoring, surface detection, and 3D rendering — but the application depends entirely on what problem you're solving.

Interactive training uses AR to guide someone through a process in real-time. Instead of reading a manual or watching a video, the trainee sees step-by-step instructions overlaid on the actual equipment or environment. This reduces error rates and training time, particularly for complex procedures.

## How It Works

AR projects start with a scoping phase where we figure out whether augmented reality is actually the right solution for the problem. Sometimes it is. Sometimes a well-designed [mobile app](/services/mobile-development) does the job better at a fraction of the cost. We'll tell you either way.

For projects that move forward, we build iteratively — rough prototype first, tested on real devices and in real environments, then refined based on what works and what doesn't. AR development has a wider gap between "looks good in the simulator" and "works in someone's hands" than most software, so we test early and adjust often.

What industries benefit from augmented reality development?

AR development is most effective in retail (product visualization), real estate (property walkthroughs), education and training (interactive instruction overlays), conservation (spatial data mapping), and events or exhibitions (interactive installations).

What AR technologies does Gato Blanco use?

We develop with ARKit (iOS), ARCore (Android), and WebAR for browser-based experiences. For more complex 3D work, we use Unity. The choice depends on your target platform and whether the experience needs an app or should work directly in a browser.

How much does an AR project cost?

AR project costs vary significantly based on complexity. A WebAR product visualizer is a different scope than a full spatial training system. We start every AR project with a scoping phase to determine whether AR is the right fit and what the build involves before quoting.
